Disney's Beauty and the Beast Musical

Presented by West Community Theatre at West Performing Arts Center

All the great love stories involve overcoming impediments –problems of distance or social strata, family bonds or rival lovers.

All the great love stories involve overcoming impediments –problems of distance or social strata, family bonds or rival lovers. “Beauty and the Beast”– the fairy tale romance – shares the famous love story of a wolf-man type beast living in a gloomy, fortified castle and a strong-willed, smart and pretty girl living in a sunny village. Differences abound: he’s mean, eats from a bowl and has Belle’s father locked in a cell. She’s sweet, loves to read books and lives in a cottage in the forest.  But in the end, love triumphs. The story’s exception endurance – a tale as old as time, as the teapot reminds us – rests in the core theme that no matter how hideous or beastly we may appear, one can give and receive love powerful enough to dispel the differences.

Premiering weekends, July 14 through July 23, the tale of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is told at West Performing Arts Center in New Berlin, WI.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast began as an idea for an animated movie in 1930s with Walt Disney. Attempts were made then and
later in the 1950s but proved to challenging to create. Finally in 1991, the American animated musical, romantic fantasy drama film was released by Walt Disney Pictures. Based on the 1740’s French fairy tale of the same name by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, “Beauty and the Beast” has endured as a beloved story, animated movie, on-stage musical and the recent release of a movie setting box office records and promoting the story to a new generation. The musical features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and the book by Linda Woolverton.

West Community Theatre brings the story of Belle, the non-traditional village girl with an equally odd inventor father to life on stage. In WCT’s production, Belle is played by Nicole Jakubiak. Her father (David Jirik) is imprisoned by the Beast (Joseph Gallo). To free her father from imprisonment, Belle offers herself as a prisoner where she meets enchanted items Cogsworth (Jordan Pollard), Lumiere
(Zachary Beeksma), Mrs. Potts (Ashley Sprangers) and her son, Chip (Bryanna Madson), Babette (Hope O’Reilly) and Madame de la Grande Bouche, the wardrobe (Jamie Hallenberger). Belle is pursued by Gaston (Ben Briselden) a narcissistic, self-centered and superficial individual who wants to marry Belle. His comedic, buffoon sidekick, LeFoe, is played by Justin Foster.
